About Me
My Philosophy:
There is a college for everyone! (In fact, there is more than one!)
It is important to identify the right fit, not the best-ranked school.
Every student has a story and can use their voice to create an application that reflects their authentic self!
It is not what you write, but how you write that matters! The topic is less important than the story you tell.
High School is a time to grow intellectually and personally. It is your unique journey, and shouldn't be spent worrying about what you need to do to get into the “best” college for your four years.
It’s okay to make mistakes! Just try to learn and grow from them.
A bit about me:
I am an English and social studies teacher with a Master’s degree in writing and over 20 years of classroom experience.
Ten years ago, when my daughter started high school, I found myself thinking way ahead about her college application process. By then, I had been working with students for several years to find their authentic voice and use it to craft their Common App essay. Students and their parents often asked me questions about putting together a reasonable college list or how to make the most of a campus visit. I wanted to answer their questions knowledgeably, so I enrolled in UCLA’s College Counselor Program and earned my certification in 2019.
These tools have given me the skills to support and guide families through the college search and application process. Having gone through the process with my own three children, each of whom is a very different student, I can empathize with the stress and pressure that families feel around this exciting and daunting transition. I genuinely enjoy helping students and their families not just survive but thrive during the college admissions process!
